After using LinkedIn for several years, I’ve noticed (at least on my feed) some very easy ways to generate a lot of clickbait; you post something provocative or nonsensical to drive engagement with the readers…because you know…people like to correct you all the time. Below are some of the easiest ways to do this:
Make fun of Rust - this language has somewhat of a cult following; if you call out rust as being an inferior language to something like c++ or better yet, python, be ready for the onslaught of responses. I actually did this once and it was hilarious. 🍿
Tell a competing field that their days are numbered - so you are a fancy data scientist right? And you can’t handle those data engineers getting up in your chili because you know you understand exactly what you want, and you are a master of the lambda architecture for data processing (Helloooooo Pandas!). Well, tell those DE’s that their days are numbered. That is sure to incite a fiery response. And better yet, make sure you are sipping your Mocha Frappuccino in your Ivory tower while sending out said post.
Post a Photo of a CEO and how you think they should run their business - You have more insider knowledge than they do; you have access to their internal systems. You have decades of experience in their industry. Your crystal ball far surpasses their wisdom. Everyone should listen to you.
Say SQL is dead - this is very easy; just find a picture of a tombstone, pop it in MS Powerpoint and super impose the words “SQL IS DEAD!” on it. Then use your screenshot snippet tool, post it online, and put something along the lines of “AI will do all this for you”. Hey, you might not be an AI “expert”, but no one really knows who is at this point. The field is very open. Go big or go home.
Databricks vs. Snowflake - This is mainstay on Linkedin guaranteed to illicit responses. 2 Platforms with large followings that can’t ever seem to comprehend why you would want to use the other platform over the only one they have ever had experience using. “You just don’t get it bro”.
Iceberg vs. Deltalake - This is some more low hanging fruit and guaranteed to ruffle some feathers; you will see people post stuff that is very outdated because they asked Chat Gippity to write the post for them; when you confront them on the outdated content, they will respond acting like you are the confused one; Classic misdirection.
Tell Everyone to move to Oracle - forget the $$$$, Larry needs a new yacht.
Cursor is going to take over the world - Software engineers days’ are numbered. You don’t believe me? Check out this killer app I made in 5 minutes located at http://localhost:8080. The world is your oyster.
Thanks for reading,
Matt
AI will certainly kill data science. Data scientists and slow, expensive and not always correct.
SQL is dead, Rust sucks, Databricks is better than Snowflake.
